In doing practice kits, I could see how I would start to run into problems in various places without more of the standard tools people use. One of those is reaching the holes for dimpling skins.
The tool on the left is the DRDT-2. I don’t remember its official name name off hand, but it’s essentially an extra long compression dimpler. This will actually allow me to reach and dimple the rivet holes on skins. Then I can follow up with the 3X rivet gun for those tough spots.
The other two I discovered I really needed with the plans build project: a band saw and a bench grinder. The bench grinder is more of a nice-to-have. Throw on a deburring wheel and batch deburr parts. The band saw would have been nice for quickly cutting out parts and form blocks. For the RV7, it’s for cutting the thicker metal parts.
At this point, I just about have everything I need to get started minus the kit. Just missing a #8 screw dimple die and a boat load of sheet metal clamps.
